Outbuildings and Studios
We create outbuildings that capitalise on their form, shape, and orientation, ensuring minimal energy usage for heating and cooling. Relying on both passive (like insulation) and active (like solar panels) technologies, we ensure that you will have spaces that are comfortably warm in winter and cool in summer.
An Artist Studio
This design is for a spacious art and sewing studio with expansive windows offering countryside views and north-facing rooflights. A potential covered walkway ensures easy access regardless of weather conditions. Inside, the design accommodates three large sewing machines, a bespoke storage scheme and flexible gallery lighting.
Flexible Garden Room and Short Term Let
In Bath's central World Heritage site and a prominent conservation area, the project brief was to replace an outdated carport with a more accessible garage along with a flexible garden room that could be an short term let, office or garden room.
Ensuring safety, heritage respect, and minimal visual impact, it employs sustainable materials like British larch and adaptive solutions such as space for potential solar panels and an EV charging point. Other environmental features include multiple new trees, converting the existing lawn to wildflower meadow, sedum roofs, bat and swift boxes and log piles to accommodate Invertebrates that live within a pond on site.
Yoga Studio
A brief to design a flexible space that will be used for professional yoga classes initially but could also be converted into a short term holiday let at a future date. The studio includes a full bathroom, kitchen and large space for a yoga class of eight. The building is simple and natural; constructed from a mix of timber and zinc with a foundation system designed to avoid the use of concrete. The studio is designed to provide a calm and generous space with minimal intrusion on the site and wider environment.
