Horseshoe Walk
Our project at Horseshoe Walk, Bath, proposed a thoughtfully designed replacement garage and garden room that harmonised with the local heritage and environment. The plan included demolishing an outdated garage and replacing it with a modern facility accommodating a car, a motorcycle, and an EV charging point. Beneath the garage, a multi-functional garden room offers space for personal activities alongside storage with the flexibility to be converted into living accommodation at a future date.
Sustainability is at the heart of the design, featuring natural British larch cladding, a sedum roof for rainwater absorption, and a permeable driveway to improve drainage. The scheme ensures minimal visual impact on the surrounding area by reducing the height of the garage room as much as possible and cladding it in a high quality Sottish Larch that integrates the building into it's natural context. It incorporates biodiversity enhancements like wildflower planting, swift boxes, bat boxes, a log pile and bee hotel; achieving an 8% uplift in biodiversity as a result.
This project prioritises heritage sensitivity and sustainability: providing a modern yet contextually respectful addition to Widcombe.
